The BIGGEST MISTAKE

STOP MAKING THE BIGGEST MISTAKE ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

Do this instead and you will absolutely change your world.

Any Executive Directors out there? Business owners? Directors of development? Marketers?

This One Sheet is for nonprofits, local businesses, ministries, startups, or really any organization that depends on human beings to keep them alive.

Please introspect and be honest with yourself while you read this. What are your goals and ambitions?… Increase Fundraising? Social Media presence and impressions? Community Branding Awareness? Just need more customers? A deeper, more loyal donor base? WANT to just do more GOOD?

I’m spitballing here, but pretty sure if you doubled any of these, you’d feel like a hero. You’d probably renew your personal employment contract, with a nice raise, open a new location, finally fund that passion program, hire new staff, and DO MORE GOOD!

What if this was much easier than you think? Proven? Simple? And it doesn’t add to your plate of to do’s?

There are a million influences telling you how to grow, fundraise, advertise on social, sign up for this or that, but what if all you had to do was flip a switch in your brain?

It’s so easy to get bogged down in day to day operations, the nuts and bolts of your work, the minutia, that you forget the big picture of why you exist, and your supporters and customers do too!

After 15 years of making films and videos to tell the stories of hundreds of organizations across the country in every slice of life, one thing has become blatantly clear to me… almost everyone is doing marketing and social media wrong.

I’ve personally had the opportunity to see the results of my unique approach to fundraising and advertising DOUBLE clients revenue, more than DOUBLE their social media reach, and DOUBLE an organizations impact in the community through expansion and resources… by having more MONEY.

The answer is simple, and here it is. TELL YOUR STORY! That’s it. Tell people who you are, and WHY! Do this WELL, CONSISTENTLY and EMOTIONALLY, and significant results will result!

We are all humans, we have hearts, and that which moves the heart will dictate our actions! Our charitable giving actions, our buying and patronizing actions, and our social media sharing and liking actions!

Movies are the worlds greatest form of entertainment because they move our hearts, excite our imagination, and remind us of WHY we are here and WHY life is worth living. Do this well for your company, and you will be a hero.

Here are five things to consider with your social media content posts that will absolutely change the hearts of your clients, customers, and your charitable supporters, and remind them of who you really are.

    1. First, accept that nothing happens over night. You’re in this for the long haul. And when you accept this, and don’t give up, hold the course, within a year you will have significant increases to your revenue streams.
    2. Begin by remembering your purpose! Who are you? Why do you exist? What do you do for others and the community? Get this down to one, concise sentence.
    3. Start posting material that communicates this PURPOSE in every post, blog, ad, VIDEO, image, quote, or whatever else you think to post. Make sure you are telling people WHO YOU ARE AND WHY! And to be clear, there’s nothing on the internet more powerful than short format VIDEO CONTENT to engage your audience and communicate this message.
    4. Do the above with as much authentic emotion and sincerity as is humanly possible. BE REAL. Find the stories you’ve experienced in your business that are TRUE and share them!
    5. Do the above with style, entertainment value, professionalism, and BE CONCISE! Even though they love you, everyone has an attention span. Don’t be too long. And use VIDEO! But make sure it’s WELL DONE. Weak content is counter productive.

The real truth… people don’t care about how the company or program operates, or WHO operates it. No offense. They don’t care about the new hire, or the latest article that doesn’t have anything to do with your organization. Sure, you need to promote events, products, etc, but don’t focus on those things if you want to raise revenues.

People support nonprofits and local businesses who are making a DIFFERENCE in the world. If it’s a sandwich shop, (first, it better be good grub!) But how are you serving the community? What is your social responsibility? Do you support the local Boys and Girls Club? Tell those stories. Brand yourself as the “Good guys”, and make it about “them”. If you’re helping underprivileged kids, or stray dogs, or the elderly, or even selling homes, tell the success  stories of how people’s lives have changed! Let them speak for you! And do it with real emotion. In a nutshell, reach your audience’s heart with content of real value and your fundraising, social media traffic, and sales will explode. People need inspiration, and want to hear good news! Share your stories from the heart, you’ll thank us!
